Regular readers know that I love a little lakeside town in Central Florida by the name of Mount Dora. Yes, there are actual “mountains” here in the Sunshine State and yes, there is a “Mount Dora.” While nothing compared to the great Rockies or other American mountainy wonders, the mountains around here give the state a charm like only Florida can provide.
So too does it offer up a lake – Lake Dora, go figure – and yet one more reason to visit this charming haven. The people, shopping, dining and outdoor activities are also on the list. So what then reminds me so much of Mount Dora, where do I like to shop (when I’ve got the spare cash) and what would I recommend?

Oh, its hard, but in my heart, not really; I love the waterfront. The store in town that speaks most sweetly to my personal passions and tastes is Willoughby’s & Company.
Set in a low-rise shopping row of long white buildings about two blocks from the lake, Willoughby’s & Company carries the things I like, from items on the wall to things for the bed, from kitchen decorations to entertaining delights, most all with some sort of tip-of-the-hat to water, beaches, seashores and boating.

A higher-end scale of items and pricing, this is a spot for making your lake or seaside home special. Pick up a tile or tile-clock with the local chain of lakes on the front. Grab a vintage looking wall hanging with wooden boats carrying happy people coasting across what could be Lake Dora, or partake of something that makes showing off your love of the water life all your own.
From fun to quirky to memorable, Willoughby’s will have something for everyone, and while you’re at it, remind you of those waterfront days filled with special memories.
