Flip Camera; Come and go with this great travelers friend

I was given this Flip Camera as a Klout Perk - a free product to try because I have a strong Klout score in social media. Photo Rori Paul

I have been using our two Flip cameras for over a year now (about a year on #2) and love them. They are light weight, easy to use, and can provide an excellent quality that I don’t care, even as a MAC fan, I prefer over anything I’ve seen from a phone. I was going to all out recommend the Flip for travelers as a great tool and fun way to remember and share your journey, only to find out that Flip is on its way out.

As I was pulling up the sites I was going to use to support this review, I found an article, RIP Flip Video Camera, sharing the awful news that its makers are discontinuing this great camera.

I’m bummed. We’d bought our first camera a little over a year ago so I could share video of things here on Rori Travels Florida. Do check out our page on YouTube.

Then about 9 months ago or so I’d gotten a Klout Perk (a free item from a company through the social media tool, Klout – for having good “klout” in your social media field) that was a free Flip. You bet I was excited!

Now I had two cameras to gather all the great stuff I wanted to share. My only problem: I was getting so much great stuff I ran out of room on my computer and had to stop. All together videos went onto the back burner… now that I have a new computer, more room and am ready to ramp up the video work again, I find out Flip will be leaving us…

Thankfully we still have our two cameras and you better believe I’ll use them until they too are no more.

We are our Flip cameras and if the rumor is true, will greatly miss this excellent travel tool! Thank goodness we still have ours! Photo Rori Paul

REVIEW
So to do a review of something that’s about to go away seems a bit pointless, but maybe if you get out there quick enough you’ll still get your hands on one. These are great little cameras that provide awesome quality picture and very good sound and you’re going to be happy with the results.

I know more and more are going to in-phone cameras and video, but you will never get me to make that change until the quality increases a thousand fold.

I’ve been taking photos and shooting video for much of my life (yep, film before digital) and so far, even with all the advances in technology, I’m not seeing anything from a phone that yet matches even something as simple as the Flip. Even if quality is slipping closer, amount is lagging.

So if you can still find one and are looking, grab up a Flip before they go away. And if not… we’ll have to wait together to see what next comes around that is actually worth the money…

Flip Cameras:

Our first one, Flip Video UltraHD 2hrs. Bought from B&H Photo online. Excellent quality, great picture and mostly great sound, though you have to know where you are and what sounds are around. Price great for what you get. Very happy, use often, lasts with great amount off of batteries.

Klout Perk Flip, Flip Video UltraHD 1 hr. Free via Klout Perks opportunity. Excellent quality, great picture and mostly great sound, though you have to know where you are and what sounds are around. Price great for what you get. Very happy, use often, lasts with great amount off of batteries. Does get one hour less in 1 vs 2 hour capacity, but not an issue if you plan for that.
