Margaret Albritton is a local artist. A grand lady whose sense of humor and passion for local flare come playfully from the palate to dose her odes to Florida and its natural wonders with kindness, gentle good grace and a playfulness that inspires smiles.

As a printmaker and digital artist, Margaret uses the arts of modern times to highlight the place in which she lives; an Old Florida sense of roadside charm and the beauty of an area off the beaten track yet with an “I’ve heard of it” locale that immerses visitors in a wild-like setting a few steps off the beaten roads of every day.Discover it all at the Margaret Albritton Gallery.

Fish and flowers come alive in her colorful creations. Turtles working at their everyday lives, and flamingos at play. Whimsy, fun, every day joys, and colorful romps through Florida’s natural world are the subject of her work, reminding the viewer of the Florida that once was, is often forgotten and not seen through the craziness of the today’s tourism mecca, and yet lives to be remembered every day for its charming homage to what we continue to long for when we’re in the Sunshine State.

Take home one of Margaret’s works in the form of a print, mouse pad or cards. Surely you’ll find something that fits your decor while showing off her humor and charming view of Florida.

Then browse her gallery and observe the many playful wonders from other area artists. So many fun things are here, made from tire and found items, prints and originals.

You can even speak with Margaret herself, likely in the over-the-counter back area of the store, hard at work creating in the immediate a new spin on her view of the world. For our visit, she was creating a special menu for our meal that night next door at The Fishery restaurant, co-owned as is this gallery, with her husband. This is a team effort with the kind of vibe that makes even strangers feel like friends within moments.

Artists Market
Just outside the doors of the gallery sits an artists retreat. Placida, the town in which you’re standing, is on Gasparilla Sound, and here is the home of the Gaslarilla Fishery, The Fishery Restaurant, and the Margaret Albritton Gallery.

Owned by the Albritton, Margaret and husband Garry, equally a charming and family-friend kind of being, create a welcoming area of art, local flare and a charm that makes you certain this is what Florida has long been like, before the bright lights and chaotic rush of themed attractions brought to the forefront.

When next you visit the southwestern end of the Gulf Coast of Florida near Charlotte Harbor, or are considering where you should go, include a stop here at the Gallery for a step into the off-the-beaten-path charm of Florida today and yesterday, while enjoying a meal next door at The Fishery. You’ll thank me for it!
