The Wyvern Hotel, a 63 room boutique hotel, sets majestically near Charlotte Harbor in Punta Gorda. Opened in 2008, The Wyvern Hotel is part of a new horizon in Punta Gorda, hit hard by a hurricane and built on the foundation of a proud community. One of the many new builds since this town was targeted by nature, The Wyvern Hotel offers guests a comfortable stay, a playful view, and plenty of opportunities just outside its front door for natural adventure.

Historic Punta Gorda, Florida, located along the shores of Charlotte Harbor off the Gulf of Mexico, has been rated by MONEY Magazine as one of the “Best Places to Live in the South.” Also one of the “Top Ten Places to Retire Healthy” by U.S. New & World Report, the area is steeped in Florida’s rural activities and a beautiful nature unique to America’s Sunshine State.

The Wyvern Hotel sets you up at the edge of the hip and re-discovered Punta Gorda, an excellent jumping off point to the entire area and an exciting home-base from which to operate. Right outside your door, “rent” one of the free bikes offered in this forward thinking town, and get a feel for this charming community.

Hit the streets (in car or on bike depending) and head to such area attractions as the Muscle Car City, Babcock Wilderness Adventure or Fisherman’s Village, a shopping and dining spot on the Harbor.

Then at night, return to the Wyvern Hotel to relax on the roof-top bar, swim in the roof-top pool, and enjoy a view of the area from this fun setting.

Your room awaits; a comfortable nod to a trendy boutique in the big-city, but with the charm of Florida. My room was large, comfortable and well appointed. A luxury feeling and a step outside that “typical” hotel stay. ** My room was on the parking lot side of the hotel and during our stay, the bar next door provided a soundtrack to the night that soon grew weary. I’ve been told the hotel has since built a wall that blocks this sound that kept me awake until it stopped for the night. I was going to recommend requesting a Harbor side view – which I’m sure is still great for the view – but I’m told now that the parking lot side no longer has this previous issue. I cannot personally attest to that at this time.

We enjoyed the roof-top bar for a few drinks and appetizers prior to our tour of Punta Gorda’s murals, enjoying the view, the friendship, and the tasty treats. This is a relaxing yet buzzed setting for time alone, with someone special, friends new and old. Don’t miss the view of this hip little town while you’re up there.

When you return to the room you will find a well appointed and large bathroom, set up for easy use among multiple people in a rich atmosphere. The bedroom is comfortable and large, with a bed that is made for easy rest. TV, mini bar and other amenities round out a pleasant stay in-room. A favorite security feature: keyed entry to the elevator and floors. This little touch was a pleasant addition in a secure-conscious world.
