Give Me 5; Florida CVB’s, Convention and Visitor’s Bureaus

Our friends at Port Charlotte and the Gulf Islands CVB shared this image of their beautiful part of Florida. A CVB is a great place to get your vacation planning started. Photo courtesy of Port Charlotte and the Gulf Islands
Ok, so there are a lot more than 5 – I mean a lot more! – CVB’s in Florida… and why would I want to give you any? What is a CVB anyway?
Well, a CVB – or Convention and Visitor’s Bureau – is an organization run (usually by) a town-city-state that tells potential visitors all about a place. They’ll have listings for hotels and other lodging, dining, things to do and so on.
Funded in part by tax dollars – and some by those businesses that advertise with them – a CVB is a great way to get you going when you’re thinking of visiting a place…
But then you’ll want to take that information and use it to do further research, like with a blog.
I LOVE CVB’s and the people who work ‘em. They’re there to help you find places in a place. But remember, they’re also going to give you all the “good sides” of a place.
Don’t forget to check out some of the many awesome travel bloggers out there – like Rori Travels Florida – for even more information. Some will give both great and negative reviews. Some, like what we try to do here, will be balanced, trying to share more along the lines of the good places rather than wasting your time with the bad – though we will always tell you any negatives we experienced, to be honest and fair…
So… here are just 5 of Florida’s awesome CVB’s – ones I’ve worked with a lot – to help you get started. Then check back here and with our friends to see what else you can discover about an area…

My friend Brian of WhatToDoInMountDora.com shared this wonderful photo of all the fun to be had in Mount Dora. Some, like Brian, have taken the bull by the horns and are promoting their town as well - or better than - some CVB's. Photo courtesy of WhatToDoInMountDora.com
